Nominations for our 2024 annual MP of the Year Awards are now open!

The MP of the Year Awards celebrate the work of MPs from across the country who actively work with underrepresented and disadvantaged communities across the UK. The awards provide motivation for MPs to work with diverse communities and highlights best practice.
This year, we’ve also introduced the LabTech Community Champion Award, which recognises members of the public who have made significant contributions to their local community. You can nominate your Community Champion now alongside your MP of the Year, or find out more about the Award and it’s launch here.

The Patchwork Foundation believes in promoting and highlighting best practice. Each year MPs across the country work closely with diverse communities, with many MPs delivering excellent representation and coverage to otherwise underrepresented segments of society. The Patchwork Foundation rewards those winning MPs – nominated by members of the public or grassroots community organisations and selected by an independent panel of judges – by acknowledging them as the MPs of the Year. Our LabTech Community Champion Award also recognises individuals who are dedicated to enhancing their communities, and encourages a culture of social responsibility and community engagement.

Every year we ask you to nominate the MP you believe has gone above and beyond to support and advocate for underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.  Nominations for the 2024 MP of the Year Awards, including for your LabTech Community Champion, are now open, so let us know who your MP of the Year is!

Please note that with the announcement of the General Election, for this year we will allow nominations of candidates who have decided to stand down. If they have been suspended or are under investigation, they remain ineligible.

How it works

Our MP of the Year Awards seek to celebrate and recognise those MPs that uphold the ethos and values of the Foundation; to champion underrepresented, minority or disadvantaged communities in the UK.

The public first nominates MPs, sharing their reasons why. This is combined with research and information from each nominated MP which is collated into a standard form. The winners are chosen by an independent panel of judges who blind judge the nominees by considering the work and accolades of the selected MPs.

As a general rule, nominations for existing leaders of political parties, or those involved in an active leadership bid are not taken forward for consideration as well as those who do not meet the criteria above. Similarly, MPs under investigation or suspension would not be included.

The LabTech Community Champion Award is open for the public to nominate their peers, colleagues, or local community members who have championed community causes.

Nominees should fall under one of the following categories:

  • Advocacy and Influence: For those who proactively engage with local or national authorities to advocate for community needs and drive positive change.
  • Community Engagement: For those who demonstrate a strong commitment to their local community, whether through organising events, leading community projects, or consistently supporting community members.
  • Impact and Innovation: For those who have created a measurable impact on the community, offering innovative solutions to local challenges or enhancing the quality of life for community members.
  • Leadership and Inspiration: For those who embody leadership and inspire others, encouraging community participation and fostering a spirit of cooperation and resilience.

The awards are presented at Speakers House in the Palace of Westminster. MPs from across the country, constituency members, Patchwork Alumni and participants, and community leaders come together to celebrate the nominees and award winners.
