About the Patchwork Foundation
Founded in 2012 and registered as a charity in 2018, the Patchwork Foundation exists to promote and support the active participation of young people from disadvantaged and minority communities in British democracy and civil society. Our mission is to provide young people with the skills, experience, and knowledge to engage and succeed in public life.
Through our impactful Masterclass Programme, our #GetInvolved campaign, high-profile engagement events, and our annual MP of the Year Awards, we have provided tens of thousands of young people with the opportunity to engage with the political process, develop their skills, and build networks that empower them to succeed.
The Role of the Chair
As our current Chair reaches the end of their term in Summer 2024, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our Board of Trustees. The Chair will provide strategic leadership, ensuring the Foundation remains mission-focused, financially sustainable, and well-governed. They will act as an advocate for the Foundation, engaging with political, corporate, and civil society stakeholders while supporting our Chief Executive and Board in delivering our ambitious objectives.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking a Chair who embodies our values, understands UK politics and civil society, and has the credibility to engage at senior levels in public life and with the communities we serve.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior leader with:
- A strong track record of chairing boards or senior committees within the charity, public or private sector.
- Deep knowledge of the UK political landscape and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
- Exceptional leadership and governance skills, with the ability to set a clear vision and support strategic growth.
- Strong financial acumen and the ability to oversee fundraising efforts to ensure sustainability.
- Respect among influential contacts within Westminster, Whitehall, business, or civil society to enhance the Foundation’s reach and impact.
- A passion for diversity, social mobility, and youth empowerment, with the ability to engage and inspire young people from all backgrounds.
Time Commitment & Term
The Chair will be expected to dedicate approximately 3 days per month, including Board meetings, engagement with the Chief Executive, external representation, and attending key events. The initial term will be three years, with the option for renewal for a second term subject to Board approval.
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role, though reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out duties will be reimbursed.
