“Patchwork doesn’t just leave young people with political knowledge, it also leaves them with a lot of personal power.”
It is with profound sadness that the Patchwork Foundation shares the news of the passing of Rizwana Bokhari, the beloved mother of our founders, Harris and Hina Bokhari, on 10th February 2025. Though she may no longer be with us, her influence and legacy will live on in the values and work of our foundation.
Rizwana Bokhari was the strength behind her family’s achievements. As the wife of the first Muslim headteacher of a secondary school in the UK and the mother of two devoted public servants, her love and unwavering support shaped the work we do at Patchwork today.
She was also the inspiration behind the name of the Patchwork Foundation. Rizwana used to knit patchwork blankets, and this act of bringing together different pieces to form something whole became a beautiful metaphor for society. At Patchwork, we believe in connecting diverse communities and backgrounds to create a stronger, more unified society—just like her blankets.
To honour her legacy, our sister organisation Naz Legacy Foundation have established the Rizwana Bokhari Endowment, a charity fund dedicated to supporting the education of orphans, a cause close to her heart. If you would like to contribute, we would be deeply grateful for your support.
